What Will We Do With What Is Left
VF’s Artistic Director Matt Smith collaborated with video artist and documentary filmmaker Simon Clode on this three channel installation.
Existing somewhere between documentary, ethnographic study and personal reflection What Will We Do With What is Left explores representations of Palestine through the prism of Jenin Refugee Camp in the Occupied Territories of Palestine.
The work focuses in part on the physical act of documentation; does it have the potential to distort the intention of the subject or does a new explicable truth surface? What materials are selected and why? What is to be made of what is unused?
Using unique material filmed in Jenin since 2011, this multi screen installation is supported by Arts Council of Wales and Chapter Arts Centre and was installed at the Qalandiya international Arts Festival 2018 as part of their Collateral programme.
